Gina Agarwal is a practicing family physician (MBBS MRCGP CCFP FCFP). She is one of a few family physicians with a PHD in Epidemiology (2011). Dr. Gina Agarwal has facilitated, led and supervised the development of community paramedicine research at McMaster University. She established the CP@clinic Program in Ontario, including all of its program components and scientific evaluation plan (CIHR-funded multi-site randomised controlled trial; 2014 - 2017). In April of 2019, Dr. Agarwal was awarded Health Care Policy Contribution Program (HCPCP) funding by Health Canada to expand the innovative CP@clinic program with paramedic services across Canada. CP@clinic is the leading evidence-based community paramedicine wellness clinic model and has the potential to benefit communities across Canada. Distinguished publications in both the Canadian Medical Association Journal (CMAJ) and Prehospital Emergency Care demonstrate the impact of CP@clinic on the health system and residents in subsidized housing. The CMAJ article received the 2019 Article of the Year award from the Canadian Institutes of Health Research-Institute of Health Services and Policy Research (CIHR-IHSPR).
Francine Marzanek has worked in the Department of Family Medicine since 2009. Prior to this, she worked in public health and education for over 10 years with a focus on heart health and population based community health promotion strategies. As a Research Coordinator, she has been involved with the planning, implementation and scaling of the CP@clinic Program, as well as other Community Paramedicine Research projects. Francine has research interests related to cardiovascular health promotion and chronic disease prevention in the community and running a marathon in the future.
Melissa Pirrie has worked in health research since 2005, starting as an undergraduate research assistant and then completing an MA in Applied Health Sciences. From 2009 to 2011, she was a Research Associate with the Ontario Health Study, a large provincial cohort study that is part of the Canadian Partnership for Tomorrow Project. Melissa was a CIHR training fellow in Population Interventions for Chronic Disease Prevention (PICDP) from 2010 to 2012 and is currently completing her PhD in Population Health at the University of Waterloo. Her specific research interests include population health, built environment, health equity for vulnerable populations, and chronic disease prevention.
Natalie Kedzierski has worked with York Region since 2005. She became an Advanced Paramedic in 2010 and shortly thereafter became the Superintendent in Community Paramedicine and Research in 2014. In 2018, she became the Program Manager of Community Paramedicine and Research as she has extensive experience with vulnerable and high risk patients and program development. York Region Paramedic Services is one of the original CP@clinic partners. They took part in the 2014 CP@clinic Randomized Controlled Trial and still implement the program today.
Ric was a physician in the Philippines, Assistant Dean for Graduate Studies in a University Medical School, and a public health officer (Epidemiology/Environmental Health) with 7 years of teaching (medical school and graduate school) and public health experience. He has a strong background in public/social health research. He has worked in the Department of Family Medicine since 2009 starting as a Research Coordinator/PhD student/Quality Assurance tutor transitioning to a Research Associate/Asst. Professor (part-time) after completing his PhD in Health Research Methodologies at McMaster University.
Brad Jackson is a Paramedic Superintendent and Primary Care Paramedic working with both Bruce County Paramedic Services and Guelph Wellington Paramedic Service, since 2009. In 2018, Brad became the Community Paramedicine Coordinator in Guelph Wellington, before becoming the program’s Superintendent in 2020. During this time he also worked as an Operations Superintendent for Bruce County and helped launch the Community Paramedicine program there in 2021. Brad holds a Bachelors of Clinical Practice (Paramedic) from Charles Sturt University, a Bachelors of Education (Adult Education) from Brock University, and a Diploma in Emergency Health Services Management from Dalhousie University. He has a keen interest in expanding the role of the paramedic in rural areas, and leveraging Community Paramedicine as a tool to overcome barriers to care that rural residents may encounter.
As Chief of Peterborough County/City Paramedics, Randy brings over 30 years’ experience in Emergency Services. He began his EMS career in 1986 in south-western Ontario as a paramedic and he progressed through various roles including Supervisor of Quality Assurance and Human Resources, Deputy Chief of Peterborough County/City Paramedics and Chief of Essex-Windsor EMS.
